It’s me, Meredith. I am the artist and designer behind Phenomena Glass. I found stained glass as a medium in 2020 after noticing a leaded window in my neighborhood with a lovely sunset. I knew I needed to know how to make that, and I set out to build a glass studio in my San Francisco apartment.

I found glass to be a unique challenge. As a designer who’s used to controlling every detail of a project, I had to learn a new way to think about color and light. The glass changes from one moment to the next. As the earth moves around the sun, the light behind a window evolves and shifts. What looks brilliant on a light table, might be dull on a cloudy day. I had to slow down, and perfect each step of the process.

From the beginning, I never wanted to use another artist’s pattern. I knew I would only make my own designs. It’s all the more rewarding to dream up a design and see it to the end.

Now located in Minneapolis, MN I make stained glass windows, lights, and suncatchers for clients out of my home studio. The ocean sunsets that inspired my beginnings in glass are still in my heart, but I have found a brilliant world of inspiration in the Upper Midwest among the flowers, lakes, and skies. I stay curious and inspired by getting outside by foot and by bike, exploring the many trails in the land of lakes.
